The Auxiliary Board of Northwestern Memorial Hospital

Founded in 1987, The Auxiliary Board of Northwestern Memorial Hospital is composed of a group of young professionals and future community leaders who raise funds to support research programs at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. The Auxiliary Board has committed more than $1 million dollars to enhance treatment for Northwestern Memorial’s patients and their families through a host of patient care initiatives, including: the Ambulatory Spine Program, Bone Marrow Transplant, Comprehensive Heart Failure Prevention and Treatment, Functional Neurosurgery, Prostate Cancer Gene Therapy, Women’s Health, and the Northwestern Brain Tumor Institute. Historically, the board has focused on providing “seed money” to programs and novel research initiatives.

Northwestern Memorial Hospital: A National Leader in Exceptional Stroke Care

In 2010, U.S. News & World Report ranked Northwestern Memorial Hospital’s neurology and neurological surgery programs 13th in the nation. Recognizing the leadership and exemplary work that characterizes these programs, The Auxiliary Board pledged its support to an innovative research study led by Andrew M. Naidech, MD, MSPH, medical director of the Neuro/Spine ICU at Northwestern Memorial and associate professor of Neurology, Neurological Surgery, and Anesthesiology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.

Through this study, Dr. Naidech and a team of physician-researchers representing Northwestern Memorial and the Feinberg School will explore the incidence and causes of ischemic stroke (loss of blood flow to a part of the brain) in the wake of an intracerebral hemorrhage (bleeding in the brain). Dr. Naidech and his colleagues also will strive to identify effective means of treating this type of stroke, in order to mitigate—or even prevent—serious complications related to patients’ physical health and quality of life.

Please consider making a gift to support pivotal research that promises to benefit patients who have experienced an ischemic stroke following an intracerebral hemorrhage. On June 15, 2012, at The Museum of Contemporary Art, The Auxiliary Board will host the summer’s hottest party, the 12th Annual Summer Lovin’ event. Funds raised will support the research of stroke impact in patients at Northwestern Memorial. The festive event, co-hosted by Chicago Magazine, introduces the city’s most outstanding singles, featured in the magazine’s July issue. Over the past two years, more than 2,000 people have attended The Auxiliary Board’s events and have helped to raise more than $100,000.
